Some tips I can share (maybe I should write about this sometime):

-One secret is hidden within the context of your query. This post is an excerpt from Business Standard. I have not read this book of Hamel. I like reading book excerpts and book reviews to get an inkling on authors and books I might like.

-Browsing the back cover, preface and random pages of books in a bookshop clearly tells you whether the book is interesting, valuable and suits your taste.

-I prefer authors who give credit to sources and references so that one comes to know of more books and authors to check out.

-Mention of book or author names in magazine articles and blogs draws my attention.

-As a collector-sharer of quotes I read a lot of quotes. This familiarizes me with authors so the next time I see a book by that person, it rings a bell.

-I also practice serendipity by checking out categories/shelves that do not normally interest me.

-Ultimately our individual taste should guide us in balance with bestseller books recommended by many others.

Hope this is useful.RGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05437123498400649063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8608403542373719869.post-19435487751496780882009-08-20T18:58:02.364+05:302009-08-20T18:58:02.364+05:30Thanks RG for a nice book and article. I know you ...Thanks RG for a nice book and article. I know you are a voracious reader, however I believe, it's always a gr8 thing to decide on what to read. There is so much to read that one can easily get lost (I mean one will enjoy the reading, but may not help him to grow in positive direction). I am curious to know how do you bump onto such books? Would love to read some bytes on your strategy.
Thanks and keep spreading good words.

-A curious reader.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
